PRESS RELEASE UPDATE – ARREST IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Investigators with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office have charged 20-year-old Jaylin La’Shun Freeman and 19-year-old Shamon Reid-Wilkerson with the murder of Casey Dakota Cagle. The investigation began after the body of a white male was discovered unresponsive in a car in the Beaverbrook Mobile Home Park on December 6, 2020.  The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide after it was determined that Cagle died from a gunshot wound. The motive for the murder appears to be robbery.

Freeman, whose last known address was in the 32000 block of Riverdale Drive in Southampton County was apprehended late Friday night in the 1600 block of Dorchester Square Apartments in Franklin with the assistance of the Franklin Police Department, the Virginia State Police and the Windsor Police Department. Freeman is being charged with 2nd Degree murder, Robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail with NO BOND.

Reid-Wilkerson was arrested Monday at the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office. His last known address was the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive, Franklin. He was charged with 2nd Degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery, and Conspiracy to commit a felony. He was remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail with NO BOND.  Investigators also executed a search warrant at the home of Reid-Wilkerson in the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive later Monday evening.

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of the body of a white male on Sunday December 8, 2020. Sheriff’s Office personnel were called to the 2000 block of Elmwood Drive in the Carrsville area of the County at approximately 11:00am to conduct a welfare check on a white male observed slumped over the steering wheel of a car at this location. Upon the arrival of Deputies, it was discovered that the individual was deceased. The male, later identified as 19-year-old Casey Dakota Cagle, whose last known address was the 30000 block of Oak Avenue, Sedley Virginia was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk for an autopsy. It was determined that Cagle died from a single gunshot wound.
